Jaswant Thada – A Rest House for the Royals, by the Royals…

We value people by the memories they leave with us. When we cherish the fond memories of what we shared with them, we tend to relish the relationship as well. In addition to the intangible memories, some people carry some belongings of their loved ones in their remembrance. But very few people pass on such possessions across ages for their next generations to know about such people and the moments they shared. And one man belonging to the Indian history raised a special building in fond remembrance of his beloved father that not only stands as a token of love, but also as a remarkable achievement of architecture.

The Jaswant Thada is a royal cenotaph which was built as a commemorating memento for the 33rd Rathore ruler of Jodhpur, Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. The building has been built by Maharaja Sardar Singh, the son of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II, in loving memory of his father in the year 1899. The Jaswant Thada is an architectural delight that is located to the left of Mehrangarh Fort Complex in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. The temple tomb has been instilled to be sitting atop a rocky hill and scaling up this hill will definitely add a mystical flavour to our thirsty spirits.

This is a cenotaph which depicts the intricacies of an eternal bond shared between a father and son in the exquisite and artistic carvings engraved on the beautiful sheets of genuine white marble. The extremely thin and polished stone carvings throw out a warm and soothing glow in reply to the intriguing rays of the illuminating sun. Also, the portraits of various Rathore rulers of Marwar that are set for display in the cenotaph of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II add an additional feather it’s already enchanting crown.

The mausoleum acts as a royal crematorium for various rulers of Rathore dynasty who ruled Marwar or the present Jodhpur. The cenotaph of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II comprises of two tombs within itself and this royal crematorium has three more cenotaphs located beside the memento. The cenotaph is also characterised by turret-like gazebos, an adorable and beautiful garden and also a small artificial lake that revitalizes the ambience, daring the hot sun and bringing forth a cool and calm air in to the atmosphere.

The Jaswant Thada is an invigorating tourist spot in Jodhpur, in the Indian state of Rajasthan, which will resurface a sturdy silence in the minds of the visitors. It will establish, in the visitor’s heart, an eternal connect with the love and affection the constructor carried towards his father.
