Ranakpur Jain Temples

Jainism is an important part of Indian culture. There are many beautiful temples of the religious conviction spread all over the India. However, the Ranakpur Jain temples have got a different importance. These temples are situated in Ranakpur town in Pali district of Rajasthan State. Jainism is a developed religion in India and hence there are a lot of followers of this belief can be found here. The breathtaking view of the temples also makes feel great peace of mind after being here.
The temple complex:
It is a famous temple complex spread on 4500 square yards land area. There are 29 halls in the temple complex whose excellent architecture attracts a lot of tourists belonging to other religions also. The students of architecture also love to visit this complex due to architectural excellence and beautiful intricacy of carving on every part of temples. Due to wonderful construction of various temples of Jainism they are of much interest. The chaumukh temple which is dedicated to the first Tirthankara of Jainism is also a leading attraction in the complex.
This temple complex was built in 15th century during the reign of Rajput King Rana Kumbha, who was a generous king and known patron of art and culture. The entire structure is made of white marble. The complex has a huge basement of 48000 square feet. There are four shrines surrounding the huge dome in the center well supported by pillars. There are twenty-four pillars in hall and the huge dome has total four hundred columns. These columns are beautifully carved with Rajputana style architectural carving.
Lord Adinath is the presiding idol of the primary temple. This idol of Lord Adinath has four faces, hence, it is known as four faced temple. The temple is carved in the Aravali Hills. The nymphs at the height of 45 feet with the posture of playing the flute are the leading attraction.
There is also a beautiful structure of Sheth Dhanna Shah as well as Nalinigulm Vimana. These structures took 65 years to be erected. It was designed by leading architecture Dipa Shilpi during the year 1367 to 1432.
Facts about temple:
The temples have couple of amazing views like the four statues of Lord Adinath’s mother in the four cardinal directions looks at central idol in main temple. The statue of Lord Adinath is made from pure white marble.
The temple has total 1444 pillars with excellent statues of goddesses in the dancing style. There are no two pillars with same carving and design. The structure has four separate gates.
There are also two huge bells that weight around 108 kg whose sound echoes in the whole complex. It is said that the wish made under the engraved ‘Om’ of roof are fulfilled soon.
Ranakpur Jain temple complex is almost 500 years old and holds a great value from religion as well as archaeology point of view. Despite being an old structure, the temple is still in beautiful condition and also has a lot of facilities for the visitors.
