Tourist attractions in Mount Abu

Mount Abu is one of the most visited tourist places of Rajasthan. It is the only hill station in the entire state of Rajasthan. Mount Abu is situated about 1220 metres above sea level. Though thousands of tourists from entire world keep on coming throughout the year especially in the hot summer season this number increases. Let us see some of the most popular attractions of Mount Abu.

Dilwara Jain Temples:

Dilwara Jain Temples were built during the 11th century and are one of the most renowned places for pilgrims. It is known for its beautiful architecture and the ornamental carvings inside the temple complex. The compound consists of 5 temples dedicated to Jain Tirthankaras. The temple complex is made up of Vimal Vasahi temple, Luna Vasahi Temple, Pithalhar Temple, Parshvanath Temple and the Mahavir Swami Temple. You can find various engravings depicting the scenes from Hindu and Jain mythology on the temple walls. This temple is about 2.5 kms from Mount Abu.

Wildlife Sanctuary:

This amazing wildlife sanctuary situated close to Mount Abu is spread across an area of nearly 288 sq kms. It is a subtropical forest and has a wide variety of flora and fauna. It is common to find rare species of sambhar, langur, wild boar, pangolin, porcupine and many other animals in this natural habitat. Even some leopards are spotted once in a while in this region. It is also home to nearly 250 species of birds that come from different parts of the world.

Nakki Lake:

It is an ancient and very sacred lake which is one of the most popular attractions of Mount Abu. As per Hindu mythology, this lake was dug to take shelter from Demon Bashkali when he attacked the Gods. At present, this lake is one of the most visited tourist spots and has various trekking spots. You can also take a boat ride on this beautiful lake. It is also significant from the historical point of view, the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi was immersed in this lake. It also has the popular monument known as Gandhi Ghat. As the place is crowded with tourists, it has many good quality restaurants, hotels, and other local eateries to cater to the needs of tourists.

Guru Shikar:

This is the highest point of Mount Abu and also of the Aravalli mountain range. It stands close to 1700 metres above sea level, and the place is ideally suited to get a beautiful panoramic view of the entire region. This place is also considered very sacred and has a temple dedicated to Guru Dattatreya.

Other than these popular tourist attractions, there are many tourist hubs in Mount Abu, and you can take your time to visit all these places. There is the Trevor’s crocodile park hich is a man-made breeding spot for crocodiles. Other than that, you can also visit the Achalgarh Fort and shop for some beautiful items at the Abu Road. This place is also well known for many eateries that serve authentic Rajasthani food.
